- Abstract
This paper aims to discuss the role of work in face of the destructive logic of contemporary global capitalism. The Capitalist mode of production still follows the original formula: work is organized according to the Capital's interests and needs and the logic of instrumental rationality. In the last decades, technological innovations, resulting from human potentialities, have advanced exponentially, at the expense of the more qualified workers' domination and suffering, through long and exhaustive working hours and the sacrifice of family life. Nonetheless, the consequences of such reality are even more perverse: if, on the one hand, it allows for the accumulation of capital, on the other hand it causes the deactivation of jobs, thus contributing to the increase in structural unemployment. In addition, there is an induction of consumerism as one of the bases for the maintenance of Economy and the false link between commodities and happiness. Despite the failure of structured forces with socializing ideas, there are still libertarian manifestations by groups and thinkers seeking to value the identity of the human being. Leisure is part of this context, for it cannot be understood in isolation, unrelated to other spheres of social life, especially work.
