- Title
A Lost Dimension in Elementary School Science.
- Authors
Howe, Ann
- Abstract
The article expresses the author's views on the manner of teaching science in the elementary school. Objectives which are commonly mentioned for the present science education are for children to learn the processes of science, how scientists work, basic scientific concepts and to gain increased ability for intellectual functioning. The author believes that another dimension should be included in science programs for children and that is an understanding of themselves as part of the reality around them. Elementary school science has included the study of the natural environment, but shifts and changes in thought and theory have been reflected in different approaches to the project.
