- Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Angle Class II subdivision malocclusions, whether dentoalveolar or with moderate skeletal asymmetry, can be treated with various approaches, ranging from premolar extractions to more conservative methods, such as intermaxillary elastics. With the introduction of extra-alveolar miniscrews in contemporary orthodontics, the treatment of this malocclusion has become simpler and more efficient, as it allows for greater mesialization or distalization movements, nullifying undesired side effects through a minimally invasive procedure and reducing the dependence on patient cooperation. The combination of this anchorage device with individualized prescription passive self-ligating appliances reduces the need for archwire bends, making orthodontic mechanics less laborious. OBJECTIVE: To report the clinical case of a Class II right subdivision malocclusion, in which extra-alveolar miniscrews were used in the infrazygomatic crest and buccal shelf regions on both sides, as anchorage devices to achieve mesialization of the mandibular right hemi-arch and retraction of the maxillary arch, in association with individualized prescription passive self-ligating appliances. CONCLUSION: The combination of extra-alveolar miniscrews in the buccal shelf and infrazygomatic crest with the system of individualized prescription passive self-ligating appliances proved to be effective in correcting the Class II right subdivision malocclusion.
