- Authors
Logan, James G.; Birkett, Michael A.
- Abstract
The article reports on the semiochemicals for biting fly control, particularly their identification and exploitation. The increasing difficulty on controlling insects that feed on the blood of vertebrates both in developing and developed countries are discussed. To illustrate, it mentions the latest dengue outbreaks in Australia and Singapore and the current spread of West Nile virus by mosquitoes all over USA. Relative to the matter, it shows that the insects' environment and hosts is providing valuable knowledge that will guide in the progress of improved control technologies. For instance, is the identification of new semiochemicals led by the recent advances in chemical ecology study.
