- Abstract
The present study starts from the observation that ongoing transformations in the distance education sector of higher education have been assuming an increasingly prominent role in the global and national educational scenario. This significant advancement of distance education, in terms of market share compared to face-to-face education, in undergraduate courses, demands reflection, understanding, and actions from professionals and institutions, as these changes, in a relatively short period of time, in the profiles of higher education courses, are greatly affecting the peculiarities of teaching work. The research proposed here is based on principles evidenced in studies with empirical support that work management, when not primarily oriented towards human beings, can jeopardize the organization's own survival, with all the resulting impacts. The question that emerges as the guiding principle of this research is: what is the human cost, in its physical, cognitive, and emotional dimensions, as well as the quality of work life for teachers who work in distance undergraduate courses? How do the teachers involved perceive and evaluate the activities they carry out in distance education? Thus, this study will seek, through the articulation of qualitative and quantitative methodology for data collection and analysis, to identify and analyze the human cost and quality of work life of teachers who work in distance undergraduate courses. Among the contributions of this research is the provision of subsidies to educational institutions and responsible bodies, so that the preservation of the physical, emotional, and cognitive health of teachers working in the context of undergraduate courses in distance education is considered in the development and implementation of policies that reduce the intensification/precarization of the work carried out by these professionals.
