- Abstract
The present article has as general objective to analyze the relations between satisfaction in the teaching career and its reflexes in the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB) in two counties belonging to the Guarabira Microregion. To accomplish this task, it was worked, especially, with the results of the final years of elementary school of the counties of Logradouro - PB and Pilõezinhos - PB. In general, they are municipalities located in the same geographic space and with similar socioeconomic profiles, however, they have been obtaining quite different results in the Basic Education Development Index (IDEB).Thus, a hypothesis was raised that the index of satisfaction with working conditions and relationships (salary, management, expectation of promotion, etc.) may be responsible for the existing dichotomy. To answer this investigative purpose, the job satisfaction scale (EST) developed by Mirlene Maria Matias Siqueira (2008) was used as a work tool. The Siqueira (2008) scale seeks to handle worker satisfaction with five dimensions of their work, namely: satisfaction with colleagues, salary, leadership, nature of work and promotions. It was also used a sociodemographic questionnaire as an instrument for data collection, aiming to learn about socioeconomic aspects of our population / sample. The data collected by the research instruments - sociodemographic questionnaire and EST - were worked with the IBM Statical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Based on the objectives and procedures established for this study, it was chosen to work with the ex-post-facto method. It remains to inform that this is a quantitative research. From the study it was concluded that teachers, in general, are satisfied, especially with the boss, nature of work and with their relations with co-workers. Furthermore, in the salary dimension, manifestations of dissatisfaction were noted. In general, there were no statistically significant differences in the level of teachers' satisfaction. For this reason, the research data does not allow to affirm that the teachers' level of satisfaction interferes in the IDEB results. However, it should be noted that professional experience and academic training were important elements for understanding the causes of the difference in IDEB (2017) of the aforementioned counties.
