- Abstract
Abstract:The objective of this laboratory experiment is to examine the relationship between the relative residual amounts of UV absorbance (UV254) and EDC (electron donating capacity) and the removal efficiency of micro-pollutants and nitrosamine disinfection by-products during ozonation of water containing humic acid. As a result, the findings suggested that the forma⁃ tion potentials of UV254, EDC, N-dimethylnitrosamine (NDMA) and total nitrosamine (TONO) all decreased with the increase of ozone dosage added; and the relative residuals of UV254 presented a two-phase linear correlation with EDC because both UV254 and EDC contained active aromatic compounds, thus showing a good correlation during the ozonation. On the other hand, relative residual amounts of UV254 and EDC had a good one-phase or two-phase linear correlation with the removal rate of micro-pollutants; and the relative residual EDC had a good one-phase or two-phase linear correlation with the formation potential of NDMA and TONO. Thereby, EDC relative residual amount can be used to simultaneously indicate the removal rates of micropollutants and byproducts of nitrosamine disinfection during ozonation, which is expected to have a good application prospect.
