- Abstract
The titles reviewed in this section of IBIS are available for reference at the Alexander Library of the Edward Grey Institute of Field Ornithology, Radcliffe Science Library, Parks Road, Oxford, UK. The book also contains notes and salient identification features for sub-species and "confusion species" that may also be encountered in Western Europe, taking the total of species covered to over 550. In addition to the usual expectations for such a book, moult graphs and biometric measurements are laid out in each species account with additional illustrations or photos of feather shape and colouring where it helps to age or sex a species. The main body of the book is of course the species accounts which consist of four individual sections from "Small to Medium Sized Gulls", "Grey-backed White-headed Gulls", "Large Dark-backed Gulls" and what the authors describe as "Dark Horse Gulls" (rare or unlikely).
