- Abstract
Objective. To identify common characteristics of a group of women social entrepreneurs based in Mexico City in order to create a profile of this business sector. Methodology. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted that considered variables such as the roles of mother, wife, housewife, professional, and businesswoman, as well as barriers faced by businesswomen, and their motivations and characteristics associated with social entrepreneurship. These served as the basis for the design of an interview guide that was administered to ten female entrepreneurs who volunteered to participate in the study and who hold leadership positions in social enterprises. A qualitative analysis was performed using ATLAS.ti software to examine the categories associated with each variable. Results. The study revealed that female entrepreneurs who have family responsibilities tend to seek work-family balance, have a professional background, devote more than 50 hours per week to their businesses, demonstrate customer orientation, exercise participative leadership styles, and foster teamwork. They are consequently motivated to embark on entrepreneurial ventures and generate social value. Conclusions. The study's findings underscore the importance of developing strategies aimed at fostering social entrepreneurship, which will ultimately make a meaningful contribution to society at large.
