- Title
Importance of Being Absent: Auxin Minima Are Required for Axillary Meristem Formation.
- Authors
Hofmann, Nancy R.
- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of auxin minima in the formation of axillary meristems (AMs) in plants. AMs are responsible for shoot branching, which plays a crucial role in determining plant architecture and yield. The researchers used reporters to visualize auxin signaling activity and found that localized auxin minima are necessary for AM formation. They also discovered that manipulating auxin concentrations in leaf axils affected the formation of AMs. These findings contribute to a better understanding of plant development and highlight the significance of hormone distribution in plant patterning.
