- Title
Preparticipation Physical Exam to Identify At-Risk Athletes for Exertional Heat Illness.
- Authors
Eberman, Lindsey E.; Cleary, Michelle A.
- Abstract
This article discusses the importance of the preparticipation physical examination to identify at-risk athletes for exertional heat illness (EHI). The more information that athletic trainers have about an athlete's medical history prior to the exam, the better able the exam is to find athletes that could be susceptible to certain types of injuries, especially EHI. EHI can include muscle cramps to exertional heat stroke. Cardiovascular and respiratory histories help to identify at-risk athletes.
