- Abstract
Chamomile is a name associated with several plants in particular chamaemehan nobile and matricaria recutita. An extract of the dried flower heads containing apigenin, a vegetable dye is used in shampoos and hair rinses. Herbalists use these flowers and their essential oil to sedative, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect. Essential oils are also used in cosmetics. Allergic contact dermatitis has been reported from chamaemehan nobile, containing nobilin and matricaria recutita, in which desacetyl matricarin has produced positive patch test reactions.
