- Abstract
The article reports on research which was done to generate large scale evidence on whether two common variants of lipoprotein receptor related protein 5 (LRP5) genes are associated with bone mineral density and fracture risk. The research centered on a prospective, multicenter collaborative study of individual level data on 37,534 people from 18 participating teams in Europe and North America. Researchers found that common LRP5 variants are consistently associated with bone mineral density and fracture risk across different white populations and that the magnitude of the effect is minimal.
