- Abstract
This article reports on inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA), the most common type of aneurysm. It typically strikes older men and so cases are expected to rise dramatically in the future. Smoking is almost always present in patients with inflammatory AAA and stopping is the mandatory first step in treatment. Although inflammatory AAA is less likely to rupture than other types, if the aneurysm is large surgery is necessary and generally safe. The postoperative mortality for AAA is near 5%.
