Asa Packer Mansion Remembrance Day.
- Abstract
A biography of Pennsylvania railroad magnate Asa Packer is presented. Packer was born in Mystic, Connecticut, in 1805, and failed as a farmer in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. He would later operate a fleet of canal boats, and subsequently bought the Delaware, Lehigh, Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad in 1851. Information on the life of Packer's daughter, philanthropist Mary Hannah Packer Cummings, is also provided.
