- Abstract
This article discusses a case of fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) with an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in a 68-year-old woman. The patient presented with chest pain and a history of smoking, hypertension, and other medical conditions. The CT scan revealed a 5.5-cm AAA and severe tortuosity of the left external iliac artery. The angiogram showed a "string of pearls" sign, indicative of FMD. FMD is a rare arterial disease that primarily affects medium-sized arteries, more commonly in women and smokers. The case highlights the importance of considering FMD in patients with AAA and tortuous iliac arteries, as it can cause operative difficulties.
