- Abstract
The food requirements of human beings are influenced by age, sex, regional and constitutional type, health and the socio-economic activity they are involved in. The constant contribution of food, both qualitative and quantitative, represents the daily diet which ensures the normal metabolism for each person. In the case of partially or totally edentate patients, with or without prosthesis, patients who in most cases are aged, administration of food is closely connected with their dental status and their masticator ability. The treatment of edentation by means of a mobilized prosthesis will influence immediately and decisively the daily diet of the patient, and therefore it will often be qualitative and quantitative diminished. Such a diet established on a long term will lead to the appearance of malnutrition with direct consequences upon the stomatognat system.
