- Abstract
The paper presents the principal aspects regarding the obtainment of the mixture aluminium - silicon carbide particles. There are analysed: the method of components mixing, the forces which act on the particles during their inclusion into the liquid matrix, as well as the silicon carbide particle displacement through the metallic bath.. The paper deals with the analysis of the silicon carbide particles inclusion in the liquid matrix by mechanical agitation. Aso, the mechanical stirring conditions necessary to realize the mixture are analysed. Some impeller parameters and values of the ratio between the diameter of the stirring and the diameter of the ladle are presented. The article contains information about the forces which act on the particles and determine their movement inside the liquid matrix. The agglomeration tendency of particles during the settling process is also presented. The settling process of the silicon carbide particles in the melt as a function of particles size, shape and volumetric concentration as well as the agglomeration tendency of the particles are also analysed. Finally, typical defects of composites processed by mechanical mixing and gravitational casting are shown.
