Unexpected complications of steroid reduction following COVID-19-related myocarditis.
- Authors
Taylor-Robinson, S D
- Abstract
This article discusses the unexpected complications of reducing steroid medication following COVID-19-related myocarditis. The author, a retired physician, shares their personal experience with myocarditis and the challenges they faced when tapering off prednisolone. They discovered that they were a fast metabolizer of prednisolone, which made them more prone to developing adrenal insufficiency symptoms during the reduction process. The author emphasizes the importance of careful planning and slower tapering to prevent Addisonian symptoms, especially in the context of COVID-19 and the frequent use of steroids for related complications.
