- Abstract
The article discusses the characteristics of Striga as cereal crops pathogen in sub-Saharan Africa. Topics mentioned include the wide distribution of the Striga with can infect one or many host genera, the high fecundity of Striga which made it having a high epidemiological potential, and the dispersal of its seeds by water, wind, and contaminated crop seeds. Information on the reasons behind its determination as a highly successful pathogen and options to control the parasite is also given.
