- Abstract
The article focuses on the role of fire in the losses of native diversity across the eastern deciduous forest in North America. Topics discussed include the fire history in the mesic deciduous forest (MDF), distribution of fire-adapted species, and the claim that fires did not occur across landscape positions equally. Also discussed are the plant and animal species affected by the fire, potential effects of burning on MDF plant community and the need for further research.
