- Abstract
This article presents the results of the research conducted in the EAN University (Colombia) on elective thematic groups in mathematics and sociohumanistic fields of knowledge for undergraduate students of the Faculty of Studies in Virtual Environments. In this research the quality of learning in two voluntary courses was compared: the first course deal with subjects related to the intercultural negotiation, in the context of the sociohumanistic studies, and the second course deal with mathematics. In each of this courses two groups were constituted: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group attended to a virtual classroom with the possibility of choice in subjects, materials and product type. The control group followed a non-flexible educational model. The results show that, in spite of having a lower level of dropout for the course of intercultural negotiation and a higher probability of having oustanding results in the group of mathematics, differences were not found as a result of the possibility of choice for the teaching of mathematics and intercultural negotiation.
