- Abstract
The authors reflect on tuberculosis as a major public health problem worldwide. They discuss the diagnosis of the disease, the need to provide rapid treatment to all patients diagnosed with tuberculosis, and infection control. They also emphasize the importance of drug susceptibility testing to treating drug-resistant tuberculosis and call on political leaders to attend to the needs of the poor and disenfranchised.
