- Abstract
The article presents information on a study which evaluated the efficacy of liquid-based cytology compared with conventional cytology in detecting histologically confirmed cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). The Dutch cervical screening program involved women between the ages of 30 and 60 years old. The study subjects were randomly clustered and were assigned to either use liquid-based cytology or the conventional Papanicolaou (Pap) test. Screening of patients was conducted between April 2004 and July 1, 2006, and a follow-up was done after 18 months through January 31, 2008. Also noted are the main outcome measures like crude and adjusted rate ratios, and highlights of the research findings.
