- Abstract
Interoperability is the sharing of data contained in electronic health records and health information exchanges. The federal government mandated interoperability as part of the 21st Century Cures Act final rule because of the potential to facilitate care and administrative functions. The authors outline challenges related to sharing of protected health information to ensure health equity across vulnerable populations.
