- Title
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for Diabetic Foot Wounds.
- Authors
Lipsky, Benjamin A.; Berendt, Anthony R.
- Abstract
The authors consider hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as a therapy for wounds of the foot afflicted with diabetes. Experiments on HBOT on wound tissue hypoxia, perfusion enhancement, edema reduction, inflammatory cytokines downregulation and angiogenesis proved that HBOT can be an aid for foot ulcers due to diabetes. Concerns on HBOT are discussed. The authors also discuss a study by M. Löndahl and colleagues which support the benefit of HBOT.
