- Title
After the Death of Nature: Carolyn Merchant and the Future of Human--Nature Relations.
- Authors
Nichols, Amanda M.
- Abstract
Intent on building on Merchant's partnership ethic, Wirzba calls for a l delity ethic to challenge the dualistic worldview (p. 82). Despite stating that "we need Carolyn Merchant today, more than ever" (p. 103), Rolston challenges Merchant's proposal of human partnership asserting, "mostly [non-human animals] just want to be left alone" (p. 110). Reading Merchant alongside Judith Butler's queer theory, Bauman argues that there are similarities, but Merchant's theory could be strengthened through engagement with a broader range of queer theory.
