- Abstract
The article examines the effects of prostatic inflammation on bladder activity using rats with chemically induced prostatitis. Chronic pelvic pain syndrome/chronic prostatitis (CPPS/CP) is deemed a devastating disease with pelvic pain and irritative bladder symptoms, among others. It finds that inflammation localized to the prostate induces bladder overactivity and that prostate-to-bladder afferent cross-sensitization is a potential mechanism inducing irritative bladder symptoms in CPPS/CP.
