Conn's syndrome unmasked by thiazide-induced hypokalaemia.
- Authors
Burton, Timothy J.; Salsbury, Jackie; Hood, Sue; Brown, Morris J.
- Abstract
The article discusses the cases of a 33-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man with hypertension, who were diagnosed with Conn's Syndrome after hypokalaemia was seen on treatment with the diuretic thiazide. In both cases, the importance of a suppressed plasma renin level in the diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism is highlighted. The article mentions that thiazide treatment increases the Na+ delivery to nephrons by inhibiting the sodium-chloride cotransporter. INSETS: Case Report 1;Case Report 2.
