- Title
Protecting the Heart in Obesity: Role of ACE2 and Its Partners.
- Authors
Touyz, Rhian M.
- Abstract
The author discusses the novel data provided by V. B. Patel et al. which demonstrates that epicardial adipose tissue in obese mice has a proinflammatory phenotype with associated cardiac dysfunction that are exaggerated in mice without angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). She points out that the findings by Patel raise some ideas like the possible role of ACE2 in the obesity paradox and the potential for differential ACE2/Ang 1-7 regulation in sex-linked obesity cardiomyopathy.
