- Abstract
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a parasitosis caused by various species of Leishmania and transmitted by the bite of the mosquito of the genus Lutzomia. In Mexico, it occurs mainly in regions of tropical climate and agricultural workers, especially coffee and cocoa. However, due to internal migration, a higher incidence has been observed outside these areas and in unrelated professions. We present a case of chronic cutaneous leishmaniasis in the ear lobe of a patient originated from the Mixe mountain range in Oaxaca and resident of Mexico City, who was seen in external consult with a nodular lesion of infiltrated appearance and base exulcerations clean on the surface, with temperature rise and painless. Histopathology showed a tuberculoid granuloma, the ELISA test for Leishmania was positive twice, and the IHQ negative. Antimonial treatment was indicated presenting satisfactory evolution. On a probable case of chronic leishmaniasis, a clinical-epidemiological correlation must be made, since due to the time of evolution the Leishman bodies are difficult to observe in histopathology.
