- Abstract
Split-appendix technique for bowel and bladder management: young age is not a barrier to success In addition, it avoided the subsequent need to use a stapling device to lengthen the appendix, which is associated with an increased risk of later surgical revision.3 The split-appendix technique can be considered even in very young children where the need for catheterizable colonic and bladder conduits is anticipated. A staged approach may be advantageous, leaving a reasonable appendix stump for the second procedure in children with complex bowel and bladder anomalies.
