- Abstract
The article reveals messenger RNA expression profiles of four putative CD200 receptor (CD200R) isoforms by murine epidermal cell subsets as well as functional abnormality of epidermal Langerhans cells in CD200-deficient mice and CD200-mediated immunomodulation of epidermal T cells. Molecular interactions between CD200 and its receptors have been shown to suppress inflammatory responses and even induce peripheral immunological tolerance in selected tissues. The findings imply that CD200/CD200R-mediated intercellular communication among different epidermal cell subpopulations may play an important role in preventing undesired immune responses in the skin.
