- Abstract
The article presents a study that describes the relationship between stereochemistry and antimicrobial activity of butane-type lignans and the effect of the benzyl oxo group of dihydroguaiaretic acid (DGA) on the activity. It notes that DGA and the (-)- and (+)-7,7'-dioxydihydroguaiaretic acid (ODGA) showed antibacterial and antifungal activity. It mentions that meso-ODGA only displayed antifungal activity while stereoisomers of secoisolariciresinol (SECO) did not show any activity.
