- Abstract
Diaokou River is an alternate flow path of the Yellow River in the estuary area. Based on the case study of proposed river-related project within the management scope of Diaokou River in recent years, the flood impact assessment in this area should not only satisfy the requirements of the flood impact assessment guidelines, but also take the features of alternate flow path into consideration. The river channel terrain characteristics, terminal tidal level, river length, etc. should be analyzed accordingly. For backwater height and scouring depth calculations, the water level of current river channel at the initial operation stage should be adopted. For backwater height calculation, the average high tide level with the impact of sea level rising should also be considered, while for scouring depth calculation the average low tide level without the impact of sea level rising should be adopted. For dikes crest and bridge beam bottoms elevation, the water level corresponding to discharge 10,000 m3/s at the final operation stage with newly excavated mainstream section should be used. Meanwhile, a freeboard and headroom should be included to satisfy all the requirements of flood control, transport and navigation in the determination of bridge beam bottoms elevation. In addition, the impact of ice size on hole-span layout should be considered to ensure the project safety.
