- Abstract
A physical and methodological concept based on the application of a phononic crystal for both manipulation and detection of heterogeneous liquid in one channel is proposed. The phononic crystal was created from a stainless steel block with a periodic structure of cylindrical holes. A defect of the periodic structure in the form of a liquid-filled channel was placed in the center of the phononic crystal. The acoustic defect eigenmode was tuned to the bandgap frequency region of the phononic crystal. A traveling acoustic wave was launched along the defect cavity to manipulate the heterogeneous liquid, and across the cavity, local sound probing of the composition of the liquid was carried out by the speed of sound. Milk was chosen as an example of a heterogeneous liquid.
