- Authors
Lei, Philip I. S.; Wong, Angus K. Y.
- Abstract
The article explores how designers advance the multiple-touch user interface. It cites that the technology's intuitive interaction styles offered many options to graphical user interface (GUI) designers compared with the limited actions of the window, icon, menu, and pointer (WIMP) interface built for single-touch pointing devices. It notes that advances in the design of multiple-touch hardware and user interface have resulted in recent high-profile products such as Microsoft Surface from Microsoft Corp. and iPhone from Apple Inc. It details the three classifications of detection mechanisms used by multi-touch products including sensor array, capacitive sensing, and vision based.
