- Authors
Burke, Michael G.
- Abstract
This article focuses on a study which examined how social networking sites expose young children to sexual solicitation and harassment, conducted by M. L. Ybarra and colleagues and published in a 2008 issue of "Pediatrics." An online survey of more than 1,500 10- to 15-year-old Internet users found that 4% and 9% of respondents experienced sexual solicitation or harassment, respectively, on a social networking site such as MySpace or Facebook. Both forms of unwanted attention usually arrived via instant messaging.
