- Abstract
The article focuses on the prescribing and monitoring practices among Irish dermatologists and rheumatologists for hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) used to treat connective tissue and autoimmune diseases. Topics discussed include serious and irreversible side-effect of HCQ is retinal toxicity, American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) has recently revised its guidelines with regard to screening and dosage recommendations and variation in prescribing and screening practices for ocular toxicity.
