- Abstract
The authors explore the physiological role of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) resulting from various AhR ligands and the multiplicity of AhR-expressing cells in host-microbial symbiosis in mammals. They describe the role of AhR in immune homeostasis and autoimmunity. They also discuss the significance of the interaction between the enzyme indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) and AhR in the context of autoimmune diseases.
