- Title
Interplay between p53 and VEGF: how to prevent the guardian from becoming a villain.
- Authors
Haupt, S; Gamell, C; Wolyniec, K; Haupt, Y
- Abstract
The authors comment on a study published within the issue which showed that induction of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) transcription during acute hypoxia occurred in a p53-dependent manner in non-transformed mouse embryo fibroblasts (MEF). They discuss the clinical relevance of the mechanisms dictating the distinct VEGF expression in acute and chronic hypoxic responses. The author also explain the critical importance of VEGF in dictating angiogenesis.
