- Abstract
A major question in interpreting blastogenesis data is whether lymphocyte activation by oral organisms requires prior sensitization or if activation can occur in the absence of previous exposure and sensitization. The objective of this study was to assess whether oral isolates can stimulate naive or unsensitized lymphocytes to undergo blastogenesis. Germfree mouse spleen cells responded vigorously to all bacterial sonicates, Responses were elicited in the presence or absence of Fetal Calf Serum (FCS), indicating that the blastogenic activity could be directly attributed to bacterial stimulation as opposed to non-specific stimulators in the FCS.
