- Abstract
The article presents a study which aims to determine how emodin, an extract of dried rhizomes and Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati's root can help protect neurons from hypoxic-ischemic brain damage. It states that the cells were accountable to oxygen-glucose deprivation and was treated with emodin. Result shows that there is a decrease viability of neuron-like cells under ischemia-hypoxia environment, while there is an increase of activin A and caspase-3 expression in cells.
