- Abstract
The article looks at how the 1792 drawing "The Gatehouse of Battle Abbey" by Michael Angelo Rooker, which depicted the remains of Battle Abbey in Sussex, England, inspired other British artists to incorporate the landmark in their artwork as well as travel the countryside to reach it. Other noted artists who used Battle Abbey in their work include Thomas Richard Underwood, Thomas Girtin, and J.M.W. Turner.
