- Abstract
Central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) is an acute disease which often leads to the blindness. Current ways of treatment still are not very sufficient. The development of the endovascular techniques as well as their good results are the reason for numerous attempts of the intraarterial fibrinolysis in CRAO. Although plenty of reports are optimistic, the conclusions from the randomized trial is not so enthusiastic. There is a strong need for the accurate evaluation of the pathologic changes in the vessels in the organ of sight. It is also necessary to establish which tests should be performed before the local fibrinolysis is used. These tests should help to accurate observe the effects of the treatment and also to compare the results from various centers. They should not delay the fibrynolisys, because there are strong suggestions that the effects are positive only if it is applied quickly.
