- Abstract
The article analyzes the situation of small milk producers in Ayotlán, Jalisco, Mexico. It was found that these producers face difficulties in staying in the activity due to their low productivity and profitability. Larger-scale production units tend to have better results due to the incorporation of improved breeds and more efficient management practices. Additionally, it is mentioned that larger units have greater bargaining power and sell directly to agro-industries, allowing them to obtain better prices for their milk. The low adoption of innovations is explained by the small scale of production, limited access to technical assistance and training services, and insufficient organizational development. To improve competitiveness, it is suggested that producers adopt innovations at an individual level and work collectively to access training and technical assistance services.
