- Abstract
The article discusses methods to study effects of direct action movements on farm organizations. The usual way of approaching this question has been by use of the historical method. And the history indicates that the farmer movements have been the greatest builders and the greatest destroyers of farm organizations in the United States. It also indicates that relationships established between the movements and farm organizations may have been an important factor in encouraging or discouraging the use of direct action. In studying effects of direct action movements on farm organizations, some important factors should be known as what groups are involved in the farmers' direct action movement; their methods and objectives; their relative importance; their attitudes toward direct action movements, and the possible extent of their participation in such movements. In addition, there should be detailed information about membership; programs, especially as they affect participation; leader-follower relationships; methods of interaction; attitudes and changes in feeling. These information can be collected by using the survey method or the interview method.
