- Title
Orientation of DNA replication establishes mating-type switching pattern in S. pombe.

- Abstract
Presents a report that shows that the genetic imprint is a strand-specific, alkali-labile DNA modification at mat1. How mat1 is preferentially replicated by a centromeredistal origin, so that the strand-specific imprint occurs only during lagging-strand synthesis; Effects altering the origin of replication on the imprinting and switching efficiencies; Conclusion that the DNA replication machinery might confer different developmental potential to sister cells.
