- Abstract
The article discusses Salmonella infections in 27 U.S. states resulting from outbreak strains of the serotypes Infantis, Newport and Lille from March to September 2012. Investigations indicated that many of the affected individuals had contact with live poultry from a single mail-order hatchery in Ohio. A number of the patients reported buying live poultry for backyard flocks. The hatchery's participation in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Poultry Improvement Plan is cited.
