- Abstract
The effects of polyacrylate added to the pulp as hydrophobic regulator on the mechanical properties and permeability of paper-based permeable materials were studied by using waste corrugated box as fiber material. The mechanism of hydrophobic regulator affecting the water permeability was analyzed according to the Washburn equation. The results showed that the appropriate additive amount of hydrophobic regulator can not only enhance the strength of paper-based permeable materials, but also reduce its water permeability. The hydrophobic regulator formed membranous connection on the fiber surface and between the fibers. With the increase in the amount of hydrophobic regulator added, the average pore size and porosity of paper-based permeable materials decrease while the hydrophobic performance increased. Moreover, it was found that the decrease of the average pore size and the enhancement of hydrophobic properties were the main reasons for the decrease of the water permeation rate of paper-based permeable materials.
